Interacting
Galaxies

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is back in
business!
Just a couple of days after the
orbiting observatory was brought back online, Hubble
aimed its prime working camera, the Wide Field
Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2), at a particularly
intriguing target, a pair of gravitationally
interacting galaxies called Arp 147.
The image demonstrated that the
camera is working exactly as it was before going
offline, thereby scoring a "perfect 10" both for
performance and beauty.
The two galaxies happen to be
oriented so that they appear to mark the number 10.
The left-most galaxy, or the "one" in this image, is
relatively undisturbed apart from a smooth ring of
starlight. It appears nearly on edge to our line of
sight. The right-most galaxy, resembling a zero,
exhibits a clumpy, blue ring of intense star
formation.
The blue ring was most probably
formed after the galaxy on the left passed through
the galaxy on the right. Just as a pebble thrown
into a pond creates an outwardly moving circular
wave, a propagating density wave was generated at
the point of impact and spread outward. As this
density wave collided with material in the target
galaxy that was moving inward due to the
gravitational pull of the two galaxies, shocks and
dense gas were produced, stimulating star formation.
The dusty reddish knot at the
lower left of the blue ring probably marks the
location of the original nucleus of the galaxy that
was hit.
The galaxy pair was photographed
on October 27-28, 2008. Arp 147 lies in the
constellation Cetus, and it is more than 400 million
light-years away from Earth.

TESTIMONIAL
"My
business requires me to stay on the cutting-edge: mentally,
physically, spiritually, and emotionally. If all I wanted was a
quick feel-good experience, I could go to a spa for a massage. But
I’m looking for more. When I get bodywork, I want deep rest,
rejuvenation, expansion of creativity and transformation. That’s
why sessions with Pat Gallagher and Natalie McCann are an integral
part of my career path. Working with them keeps me sharp, healthy
and innovative."

SOUL’S PURPOSE, CLASS WITH PAT GALLAGHER AND NATALIE McCANN,
SATURDAY, Nov. 15th FROM 10am-2pm
WHAT IS JIN SHIN JYUTSU?
Jin Shin
Jyutsu, known as the 'grandmother of acupuncture' is an
ancient art of harmonizing life energy within the body. JSJ
is based on traditional oriental medicine principles of a
network of energy meridians in the body which feed energy to
all our cells.
Jin Shin Jyutsu, a physio-philosophy, involves the
application of the hands for gently balancing the flow of
life energy in the body. It is the awakening to awareness
of complete harmony within the self and the universe.
Literally, Jin Shin Jyutsu is the Art of the Creator,
through the wisdom of the compassionate person. Jin Shin
Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies, which
promotes optimal health and well-being, and facilitates
our own profound healing capacity.

Jogger runs mile with rabid fox locked on her arm
|
Thu Nov 6, 1:23 am ET
PRESCOTT, Ariz. –
Authorities in
Arizona say a jogger attacked by a rabid fox
ran a mile with the animal's jaws clamped on her arm
and then drove herself to a hospital. The
Yavapai County sheriff's office said the
woman told deputies she was on a trail near Prescott
on Monday when the fox attacked and bit her foot.
She said she
grabbed the fox by the neck when it went for her leg
but it bit her arm.
The woman wanted
the animal tested for rabies so she ran a mile to
her car with the fox still biting her arm, then
pried it off and tossed it in her trunk and drove to
the Prescott hospital.
The sheriff's
office says the fox later bit an
animal control officer. He and the woman are
both receiving rabies vaccinations. |
