"MISS
PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY" ![]()
In 1939 London, Miss Guinevere
Pettigrew (played by Frances McDormand) is a middle-aged
governess who finds herself once again unfairly dismissed
from her job. Without so much as severance pay, Miss
Pettigrew realizes that she must for the first time in two
decades seize the day. This she does, by intercepting an
employment assignment outside of her comfort level as social
secretary. Arriving at a penthouse apartment for the
interview, Miss Pettigrew is catapulted into the glamorous
world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and
singer, Delysia Lafosse (Ms. Adams). Within minutes, Miss
Pettigrew finds herself swept into a heady high-society
milieu and, within hours, living it up. Taking the social
secretary designation to heart, she tries to help her new
friend Delysia navigate a love life and career, both of
which are complicated by the three men in Delysias orbit;
devoted pianist Michael (Mr. Pace), intimidating nightclub
owner Nick (Mr. Strong), and impressionable junior
impresario Phil (Mr. Payne). Miss Pettigrew herself is
blushingly drawn to the gallant Joe (Mr. Hinds), a
successful designer who is tenuously engaged to haughty
fashion maven Edythe (Ms. Henderson) the one person who
senses that the new social secretary may be out of her
element, and schemes to undermine her. Over the next 24
hours, Guinevere and Delysia will empower each other to
discover their romantic destinies.

Frothy and exuberantly entertaining
- in part because of the sexual innuendoes - it's the
best romantic comedy so far this year.

Adams shines brightly, reinforcing
the image she projected in Junebug and enhanced in
Enchanted and Charlie Wilson's War. At this time of the
year, it's tough to find a more diverting way to spend
90 minutes in a multiplex.

Based on the 1938 novel by Winifred
Watson, it's a deluxe romance that most of the time
plays like farce.

It's an unusual and engaging
romantic comedy because it's mostly about how these
women ready each other for real love.

Watching McDormand navigate that
transformation is the kind of thing that can keep your
hope in movies, and in actors, alive.

Sustains itself through terrific
forward momentum and two glorious star turns by gifted
actresses Frances McDormand and Amy Adams.

Style is a tricky, elusive thing,
and this film doesn’t so much have it as strive for it,
constantly. But something in Watson’s story endures: The
wish-fulfillment truly satisfies. And with the war
clouds gathering by story’s end, the fairy tale acquires
a bittersweet edge, nicely cutting all that whipped
cream.

Looks and sounds great, and is at
its best when it isn't trying too hard to have fun.

A good farce is hard to find.
Particularly one that holds up for the entirety of the
story and keeps us engrossed, while smiling. Miss
Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a particularly effective
and cheeky example.

The only thing missing from this
winsome, madcap throwback set in London on the eve of
World War II is an actual Brit in the title role.

A jubilee for McDormand and jolly
good fun for most everyone else.

Plays like a breeze and ends before
we know it. In the current state of cinema, all we can
hope for is one like this per year.

Bharat Nalluri directs with a light
touch and a great eye for costumes and sets, which are
gorgeous enough to make up for any contrivances in the
plot. It's pure romantic fantasy, and you won't believe
it for a minute. But it's fun to watch Miss Pettigrew
and Miss Lafosse live for a couple of hours.

The film's flaws are nothing
compared with the pleasures it offers, chiefly in its
unapologetic pursuit of old-fashioned sweetness and
romance.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th FROM 10am-2pm
We have just come back
from our Intensive Jin Shin Jyutsu Classes in
Ireland and cannot wait to share our knowledge and
experience. Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioners Pat
Gallagher & Natalie McCann are having another Self
Help Class. You will learn how to harmonize the
attitudes of worry, fear, anger, sadness and
pretense. You will learn simple self-help to
harmonize physical and emotional projects in
yourself and others which left untreated can lead to
a host of disharmonies from Cancer to Osteoporosis.
We look forward to having you in class. WHAT IS JIN SHIN JYUTSU?
Jin Shin Jyutsu, known as the 'grandmother of acupuncture' is an
ancient art of harmonizing life energy within the body. JSJ is based
on traditional oriental medicine principles of a network of energy
meridians in the body which feed energy to all our cells. Jin Shin Jyutsu, a physio-philosophy, involves the application of the hands for gently balancing the flow of life energy in the body. It is the awakening to awareness of complete harmony within the self and the universe. Literally, Jin Shin Jyutsu is the Art of the Creator, through the wisdom of the compassionate person. Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies, which promotes optimal health and well-being, and facilitates our own profound healing capacity.

"When you have tried all other Healing methods with varying
success, give yourself the treat to experience Jin Shin
Jyutsu through the Healing Hands of two Extraordinary
Healers. Here you will find some real results.
I went from limping to walking stairs after only a few sessions and my kids asked if I had been faking it before. Pat Gallagher and Natalie McCann have very different energies and when they combine them, the results are far greater than the sum of both. Having four hands work on you at once feels as though
there are several more present. There probably are. How can
you even put a price on such care and healing power?"

What Do My Feelings Have To Do With My
Health and
What Do You Mean I'm Not Breathing Correctly???
In Jin Shin Jyutsu, as trained
Practitioners, we are taught to "read" the body, "listen" to the
pulses to determine the nature of the person's disharmony. It is
an esoteric gathering of information which then allows
Practitioners to decide which JSJ flow or sequence of flows to
perform. Sometimes the core issue hides or is burdened by
another 'cloak'. People tell me what is going on with their
body, but then I listen to their body which often tells a very
different story. THE BODY NEVER LIES, it cannot, it does not
know deceit, a human construct. People make up or leave out key
pieces of information out of FEAR of judgment by the
Practitioner, but we are trained never to judge, only to BE
present with the person receiving JSJ.
We gently place our hands on any of the 26 specific points on the body called THE SAFETY ENERGY LOCKS, OR "THE LITTLE GODS". By specific placement of the hands, we flip the switches to 'brighten the light' or 'turn up the harmony of the body's music'. This hand placement brings the person back into alignment by igniting the body's own innate ability to heal itself. Jin Shin Jyutsu teaches that all disharmony is caused by one or more of the 'ATTITUDES': Worry, Fear, Anger, Sadness & Pretense - with Fear being the real Mothership of all Attitudes. 95% of my clients come to me because of a physical challenge. So people come to have physical ailments alleviated and what is REVEALED is the ATTITUDE behind that dis-ease. Low and behold, what happens is that the client's ATTITUDE changes, which in turn, restores a deep level of harmony on all 3 levels. Body, Mind & Spirit. So as we examine the ATTITUDES, we might think of WORRY as PRAYER/MEDITATION in REVERSE. SADNESS (the most dangerous of all the ATTITUDES) is FEAR that we might not get what we want. ANGER is FEAR that others won't make us HAPPY. PRETENSE is FEAR that we are not really who we think we are (a watermelon does not try to be an apple). These are all interchangeable, but you can get a feel for how this works. To harmonize the ATTITUDES, hold your fingers: THUMB=WORRY INDEX=FEAR MIDDLE=ANGER RING=SADNESS LITTLE=PRETENSE Hold each finger until you get a nice strong pulse & yes you may hold other people's fingers. The first thing that strikes me about nearly all of the people that I work with is that they do not know how to breathe correctly. Another "SECRET" is breathing correctly. Proper breathing provides good health, joy, good posture & overall harmony. So to breathe correctly, think about how babies and puppies breathe. They fill their abdomen, not their chest. They breathe in all life and possibility and exhale completely all that is no longer needed. It really is that simple.
